Well I made it through my first night in a tractor trailer bunk bed. We pulled into a rest stop area with a place for trucks to park overnight. Hey they had a porta-potty in the parking lot. What luxury! But during the night when I had to really go to the bathroom, I had my own personal bathroom on board the rig. It was called "Potty ala Folgers Coffee can." Oh boy, the special accommodations that you can find in a tractor trailer. When it was time to head out, we were able to walk up to the rest center, since it was now open and use a real bathroom and brush my teeth. Brushed my teeth the night before in a cup and used a water bottle to rinse.
I have a new respect for bathrooms.
We headed out at 10:30 am. It is going to be an exciting trip together. This is my trucking man! |
We arrived at Shone Lumber with our load at 11:15. We pulled around to the back and began the process of uncovering the lumber. Oh my goodness! I can't believe Paul does this by himself. It is hot as blazes out here. So this is where my on the job training begins. I got a pair of work gloves (much too big) and got to work. First, Paul removed all of the straps, then they had to be rolled up.
I got that job. He has a cool tool to help with that.
Then he removed about 60-70 bungee cords.
Then he removed about 60-70 bungee cords.
I got to collect them and strap them together for storage.
Then these gigantic tarps had to come off of the load,
be folded up and stowed underneath the cab.
After that was all done, we waited for them to forklift the load off.
I get back into the cab and I thought my head was going to burst!
I must be a weenie, I know. Water, Water, get me some water.
Then we got to eat some Humus and Celery for Lunch.
I also had an Atkins bar and some pretzels.
And LOTS of water.
We stopped by a Wal-Mart to get some more water
and work gloves for me for our next load.
Paul's big ones were just to big. Now I feel official.
We got to have a break for a couple hours while we waited for our next assignment. Then a message came in and we were notified that we were destined for Cressona, Pennsylvania. So we headed out on the highway to find a truck stop for the night. Here is one picture I was able to get on the road.
Pretty country side.
We will be staying at a TA Truck stop tonight.
We took showers in our own private bathrooms.
Man that was a welcome sight. That is a really nice
thing to do for the truckers.
After our showers, we had dinner in the little restaurant at the TA stop. We both had a sirloin steak with a baked potato and the salad bar. And then we split a peanut butter pie. Yummy, but made me sneeze though. If you know me, you know that when I eat too much or chocolate I sneeze. Let's blame it on the pie. During dinner we were enlightened by some other trucker on the other side of the room as to who was the best football team around and what our president was doing wrong. Seems he was looking for someone to listen to him. He was loud and he wasn't talking to us, just some other poor soul sitting near him. I guess some of these guys just want someone to talk to after a long day on the road. Everyone was friendly and it was nice to be out of the truck for awhile.
So, I guess we are in for the night. Paul is watching some TV steadily popping tootsie rolls in his mouth. I am typing up the blog for today and getting ready to lay in my rack and read a little. It is only 6:30 pm, but I am tired.
Good Night!
