Day Three - Pennsyvania

July 20, 2013

Yesterday was a long day.  Seemed to sleep pretty good though.  You know how it is when you aren't in your own bed.  Gotta love the accommodations we have in this big rig.  That's all I will say on that subject.

Good Morning PA! Here we come.

We left Delaware headed to Cressona, PA.  It was a nice ride.  Here are some pictures of the scenery we saw along the way.
We saw some "rowers" going under a bridge we traveled over.
That was pretty cool to see them.

When we got close to our destination we saw some amazing buildings.  Here are some pictures.  Notice the one where the "red caboose" is a house.  Pretty cool!
I have to admit I didn't even see it until I went back through my pictures.

We passed a couple of nice little towns called Schulykill and Frackville.  Try to figure out where those names came from.  I might do some research later.

We arrived at SABA around 10:30 in the morning. When we checked in with the dispatch, we found out that they would be ready to load starting at 3:30.  This building is huge!  I took a panorama of it.

So guess what?  It's movie day for the LaBouves.  We headed to the nearest Mall in the Cab, because we had to drop the trailer at the location.  That was nice.  Now we are a little more mobile.  We walked around the mall some and then went to see R.I.P.D.  It was kind of silly and we had to watch it in 3D.  But it was a nice break out of the truck and we got to eat lots of popcorn.  Oh, the Simple pleasures!  After the movies we went back through a sporting goods store so Paul could work out for 15 minutes.  I bought a Steelers T-shirt for me and for Katy.
I got a Saints one for Holly.  (Momma loves her girls)

We went back to SABA and walked around the property.
I took some pictures of the pretty scenery.  We didn't get a call that they were ready
for us to pick up the trailer till 5:30 pm.
We were just sitting in the parking lot.

Doesn't this flower look like a snowflake?  I thought it was so pretty.

There are always pretty streams along the roads.  From the mountain run off.

So now comes the fun part.
 We pull into the warehouse.
Now this is not a little warehouse, this property is on 100 acres.
Here is a picture that I tried to sneak while we were sitting inside, probably not supposed to take pictures.  It is kind of blurry.

We went to our trailer and started the process of strapping and tarping.  I got to help with the straps today.  I had to wear a hard hat and safety glasses.  I am a real working girl now.

This is not as easy as it looks.  After the straps are secure, Paul has to tighten them so that the straps sound like a guitar string.  It took about an hour and a half to get all the straps out, secured and tightened.

Then we move on to the tarping.  Paul has to lug these huge tarps out, put them on top of the load, unroll them and get them ready to be secured.  I am still helping too, as I get the job of bungee girl.  We roll up the sides to tuck them under and he straps them down.  We did three of them.
Our load is 53 feet in length (the length of the trailer,) it isn't to tall, just long.
It was a bunch of metal rods and all together they weighed about 40,000 pounds.  Yikes!

We finished about 8:30-9:00 pm,
that's right it took about three hours
total to strap and tarp.

This is the bulkhead that Paul had to build and secure to keep the pipes from sliding during transit.  It is really amazing all the things he has to do get this load to where it needs to go.
We are now ready to go!

I am so tired and very dirty.  My eyes are burning from my contacts and Paul is tired too.  But he is in better shape than me so I know he isn't feeling my pain. Yes, I am a weenie, but I feel like I was a good helper today.  Now we have to sit for 30 minutes before we can drive and he does some checks on the truck.

We head to a TA about 40 miles down the road to get cleaned up and call it a night.  When we arrive there, it seems like there are 100's of trucks there.  We find THE last spot to park and back it in. We are able to get a shower pretty quick.  My washcloth turns black, yuck!  But that just means that I am clean.  While drying off, I notice I missed my ears.  How does that much dirt get into someone's  ears?

A nice hot shower never felt so good!

Tomorrow we will be headed to Michigan with our load.  A town called Marysville.  So it will be a driving day.
Hey I might even put on some makeup.
