Day Sixteen - Texas

August 2, 2013

This morning Paul got up at 3:00 am.   Then we were on the road about 4:15 am.  I definitely climbed back into the bunk for a while.  Only this time, we were on a BUMPY road.  I mean I was bouncing around in the bed for about 2 hours.  I finally asked Paul if we could stop for a quick break so I could get up, get dressed, and go to the potty.  Crazy Morning!

At some point in the day we will be passing by or going through these three cities.

The over passes are amazing in Texas.

Wolf Ranch?  I wonder if there are really any wolves there...

Inner Space Cavern.
Sounds like a cool place to visit.

I think you actually go into the ground.

We saw a lot of Rock Quarries on the side of the road off in the distance.

This town was even named Round Rock

Its Telco / Westinghouse

Another Water Tower.  I have enjoyed seeing so many of them.

Another crazy town name: Hutto

Now there is an Uncle Bob's Storage across from the school in Hickory.  I thought that was just a local rinky dinky place.  I guess I was wrong.

Hesters Crossing.
Made me think of The Scarlet Letter

Some more really neat overpasses.  Very elaborate system here.

This doesn't seem like a name that would be used in Texas.  More like Pennsylvania.

A huge playground.  Really it's a playground store.
Thought of Liam and knew he would love it here.

A stadium of some kind. Don't know what for.

Just thought this was a very interesting building.

Who ya gonna call? - The Bug Master

That is a neat name for a furniture store.
The Couch Potato

The Airport is up ahead... somewhere

Some more overpasses, I just can't get over these things.  They are so detailed too.

This is the traffic heading into downtown.

Some more decorative things along the highway for this Mall.

I have now seen two Martin Luther King Jr. Highways on our trip.

Home of the Horns

Texas Longhorns!

Unusual colors.  Not gray, but a light chocolate orange color.

More Overpasses

Shooooey - Onion Creek
Please don't make me cry.

This is an outlet mall and it looks like a castle.

Another unusual name for a road.

Buc-ee's  That is a silly name but cute too.

What?

We are heading to San Antonio now.  My Great Grandmother lived there for a while with her daughter.  I was able to visit her there before she passed away.
I miss you Grammy Thompsom

Such ornate walls

Here is another one of those reminders that we are in God's hands.

Another Rock Quarry

Some factories off in the distance.

This is an entrance to a neighborhood.  All the entrances are very elaborate, especially the Ranches.

This might be a cool place to visit.

Hey, it's an armadillo on the sign.  We did see one on the road- dead.  It's like our possums.

Another German-like name.

Unusual building in the distance.

More traffic, this time into San Antonio.

Retama Park

Toepperwein Road - Really?

Water Towers Everywhere

This is a big ole church.

Seems a little too fancy.

We are here in San Antonio

Wurzbach Pkwy - Another one

The State Flag

This reminded me of Gone with the Wind.

Another Quarry

Bet there will be some traffic again...

And yet another message.  Thanks God for reminding us to Think about you.

Just so fancy on the overpasses here.

We are on the home stretch.

Wish we could actually see this.  I hear it is smaller than you would think.

Check out this system of overpasses.  Kind of spooky if you ask me.

The Home of Christopher Columbus Italian Society.

Union Stock Yards in San Antonio

Oh Yummy, I would love an ice cream right now.

Check out the big transport plane in the air.

Entrance to somebody's ranch.

The railroad is just as important as truckers.

Cute little house we saw when we got off the Highway for a while.

Another entrance.

Bigfoot Sighting!

Long flat highways in Texas

Entrance to a ranch

Looks like a Power Plant

Oh No a reminder that School is starting up again soon.

The top of this building had words on it.  I think it said Los Cazadores.

One of our daily pictures.  My precious Liam and Katy.  Love those smiles.

Baby Reilly snoozing.

Quarry

Check out this entrance.

Stopped at a Truck Stop and snapped some pictures.

We kept getting this little briers in our feet.  Go figure

Playing with an AP on my phone.

Long trains passing by.

Some more Ranch entrances.

A border control station.  That means we are very close to Mexico.

Choo Choo

Go down this road and you will go to Mexico.

Ranches

Here we are in Laredo.  Look how close we are to Mexico.

This is our exit.  We are going to the Melton Terminal here in Laredo.

Our truck getting a check over before we can enter the terminal.

Got a picture of my sweet Liam again.

Here is Aunt Holly holding baby Reilly.  Two of my best girls.

So we settled in at the terminal for the night.  Paul went to unload his trailer and I stayed and did Laundry.  We ordered pizza and then went back to the truck.  We will be getting a new load to go to Utah.  Can you believe it?  We are going to get to go through New Mexico too.  I think after this run, I am requesting a transfer back to Chesapeake.
I am ready to go home and see my grandbabies and my children.

Good Night!

Psalm 127:3
Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord,
the fruit of the womb a reward.

  1. Kristi, I am getting caught up on your adventure. Schlitterbahn is actually a waterpark -- supposedly one of the best in the world. David has been wanting to go there for years. Also, the Alamo IS very small, not at all what you would expect. Sounds like you are having fun and enjoying your trip. What an interesting way to see the country! Barbara
