We are leaving Laredo, TX. We slept at the Terminals last night, got some laundry done, ordered Pizza and slept in late this morning. We used a company van and went to Wal-Mart to pick up some things and try to get my prescriptions filled. Unfortunately, my pharmacy back home was closed on a Saturday. Booo, now I have to wait until Monday. Oh well at least I have some left that will hold me over till then. It is a hot one today, about 102 degrees. When we were in Wal-Mart there wasn't one single "white" person. Everyone was of Mexican decent. The employees all spoke English and Spanish. We are so close the Mexican border that a lot of people come to shop here.
It was a very unique experience.
This picture here is of another overpass/underpass. They are so intricate with all the details.
What kid wouldn't like coming to this daycare center. It looks like a castle.
Now these Water Towers are very cool. I love the artwork.
Paul took me to WHATABURGER for lunch. It was a good burger.
This guys was coming up to cars and asking to wash windshields for money.
Another cool Water Tower in Laredo.
This is a Travel Info Center. Not too shabby.
So we are heading down the road finally.
Now begins the vast amount of Ranches and Cactuses.
Get ready for a lot of pictures that are just entrances to ranches.
We never saw many homes, just the gates.
Hey, we are finally seeing a cow or two. Well, IT IS Texas!
Border Patrol Station. That's right, we had to stop and answer questions as to whether we were US Citizens and if we had any illegal aliens on board.
More Ranches
This lone tree with a curve caught my eye.
This is a rest stop with a covered picnic table.
Oh, I forgot to mention last night that I smashed my thumb in the bathroom door at Melton. The door weighed a ton and when I let go, BAM it caught my thumb. It really hurt and throbbed all night.
I think I will survive though.
Some deserted buildings along the highway. A lot of the little towns are dried up and empty.
Made me think of my "Kate." We could slip right in and take over, what do ya think Katy?
These RV parks are where a lot of people or work in the fields live.
Long Horn Café is no longer long ....
This is most of what we see along this road.
This a cute little place.
This was some kind of barracks. Paul thinks it may be a hunting lodge.
More of the vastness of this highway. There is NO wireless or cell phone service out here.
This was cool. A truck pulled out of a drive and caused a mini twister.
More Border Patrol
Cool little road side stand.
Some go all out with their gates.
Storybook Party Store.
Water Tower!
A little roadside snack cart.
Majestic Transmissions. Let's hope they are really awesome workers here.
This is a pretty river bed.
There is a white horse eating the leaves out of the trees.
DRY corn, probably field corn.
Every once in a while we would see these tree farms. Paul thought maybe they were pecans.
Sorry about the bug guts.
There are a lot of dried up river beds. Apparently, overuse by humans and
pumping is depleting the water.
There is some color out here.
And out of nowhere up will pop homes.
Check out how the lights are hung here.
This is a flower delivery store.
Yep, it's back to nothing again.
There is a lake off in the distance.
I can't remember the name of this river. It was before the Pecos. So pretty!
Just so gorgeous!
Look at the formations of the rock and water.
This is a dried up River Bed.
Before this river dried up there was another little bridge going over it.
Border Patrol Again! They are serious here. We basically road along the border all day.
Loved the layers of rock showing after they blew it away to make the road.
I told Paul I wanted to stop and find a fossil in the rocks. Guess what? I did.
This is what happens when the light is shining in your eyes and you can't see
the screen on the camera.
This is really me looking for fossils.
Such a cool plant.
God made flowers to show us that beauty can be found everywhere.
I really the thought the imprints in this rock were so cool.
This is one of the places I found some of the fossils.
This the top of hill we stopped at. Paul walked to the top while I rummaged through the rocks.
An Ant Colony busy at work.
More layers of rock.
See how they would blast the middle out of the hill and what was left are these cool rock formations.
Sorry about the bug guts. It is unavoidable.
Get Ready for some amazing pictures of the Pecos River!
Check out this dried up river bed. Look at the curve that was left behind.
God is everywhere, even out here in the desert.
Yep, a town has popped up. This is the
Judge Roy Bean Historical Site.
Only it was closed....
On the road again!
Love these hills off in the distance.
The sun is going down and blinding me. Wait till you see the sunset.
How majestic is Your name, Lord.
Up ahead is a town and we will be staying there for the night. It is Fort Stockton.
Long day of driving and picture taking. We would see beautiful sites and then long stretches of nothing but ranch entrances. Then out of nowhere a little ghost town would pop up. I loved seeing the lakes and river beds with or without water. We pulled in to a shell station parking lot for the night. Another long day ahead of us. Good Night All.
Shout Out to Keith - Happy Birthday Baby Brother!
Psalm 8:3-6
3 When I look at the night sky and see the work of your fingers -- the moon and the stars you have set in place -- 4 what are mortals that you should think of us, mere humans that you should care for us? 5 For you made us only a little lower than God, and you crowned us with glory and honor. 6 You put us in charge of everything you made, giving us authority over all things --
Looks like you are on the 10 making your way close to me. If you make it to Las Cruces, NM thats where I am!
